outline

  • The ways minerals form
    • There are two general ways most minerals form.
      • Crystallized from melted materials.
      • Crystallized from materials that have dissolved in water.
  • Minerals from Magma
    • When magma cools inside the crust, minerals form.
      • Crystal size
        • How fast magma cools, how much gas the magma has, and the chemical composition of the magma all effects the crystal size.
  • Minerals formed by hot water solutions
    • During the process of cooling, the hot water solution makes crystals.
  • Minerals from Evaporation
    • When solutions evaporate, they leave crystals.
      • An example is halite.
        • Halite is from evaporated sea-water.
  • Places where there are minerals
    • The crust of the Earth is mostly made up of minerals combined in different type of rocks.
      • Rare minerals and rocks are not evenly spread around the Earth's crust.
